FINRA — Consolidated Short Interest
Official short interest reported by broker-dealers to FINRA. Published twice monthly on settlement dates (mid-month and month-end, business-day adjusted), typically several business days after settlement.
- Coverage: all US-listed stocks (NYSE and NASDAQ), 40,000+ symbols
- Fields: shares sold short, change from the prior report, average daily volume, days to cover
- Powers: short interest levels and history, short % of float, days to cover, short interest change
FINRA — Reg SHO Daily Short Sale Volume
Daily short sale volume required by Regulation SHO, published by FINRA after each trading day. Volumes from all reporting facilities are aggregated per symbol.
- Powers: daily short volume, short volume ratio, and 7-day / 30-day short volume averages
Interactive Brokers — Cost to Borrow & Shortable Shares
Borrow fee rates (CTB), rebate rates, and shortable share counts from Interactive Brokers, refreshed throughout each trading session.
- Coverage: ~17,000 US-listed stocks
- Powers: current and historical cost to borrow, borrow rate momentum and persistence scores, shortable share availability
Note: CTB is an annualized rate and can vary between brokers. A 100% CTB means shorting $10,000 of stock costs roughly $27 per day in borrow fees.
SEC EDGAR — Insider & Institutional Filings
All insider and institutional data comes directly from SEC EDGAR filings:
- Form 4 — insider transactions (buys, sells, option exercises), typically filed within two business days of the trade. Powers the insider trading dashboard, per-ticker insider pages, and insider profiles.
- Form 13F-HR — quarterly institutional holdings, filed up to 45 days after each quarter ends. Powers institutional ownership pages and institution profiles.
- SC 13D / 13G — beneficial ownership filings for stakes above 5%.
- DEF 14A — proxy statements. Powers executive compensation pages.
